As lots of fans will know, Ant has been involved for many years in the composition and production of "Library Music” for use in Film, TV and other media. Most of this music is unavailable commercially
Ahead Of The Field is a library album which Ant composed for music publishers De Wolfe/Rouge Music
Originally commissioned in 1984, it’s now being released by Voiceprint as a commercial album for the first time as part of their series ‘Music For TV and Film’
The album's primarily a showcase for Ant as a composer rather than a performer (musician credits are listed below)
As a library project it had a number of requirements in the initial brief, a key one being the use of then-contemporary electronic drum and synthesiser sounds
Here’s the description from the original album cover...
“Modern, Punchy, Industrial Themes With The Emphasis On Rhythm; Played By X-Cess”
... this is a good summary of what it sounds like!
Ant composed a number of tracks for the project and scored a selection of them. These were recorded by some top session musicians (credited under the name 'X-Cess') in De Wolfe's London studio in the spring of 1985
Ant subsequently overdubbed additional parts and the finished album was issued as a vinyl LP to broadcasters and production companies - tracks were subsequently used on a number of TV programmes in the UK
Musicians:
Ray Russell: Guitar
Paul Westwood: Bass
Harold Fisher: Drums
Trevor Bastow: Keyboards
Additional guitar and keyboard overdubs by Anthony Phillips
Recorded at Red Light Recording Studios Ltd, London.
Recording engineer: Robert Poole
